Additional Information Available

February 5th, 2010 admin

Lately we have been receiving several calls from potential patients wanting additional information about the surgeons prior to scheduling their consultation.  While the first stop should be our incredibly informative and up-to-date website, you may also want to consider the plastic surgery society websites including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.  They are both a good source of information before or after you schedule your consultation.  Most importantly however, do not hesitate to ask our staff any questions you may have as they are able to provide the most information about the surgeons, the procedures, the practice and our policies.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Arnica is a homeopathic medicine that helps to reduce bruises, swelling and pain from surgical procedures or accidental injuries.

Arnica is also know as Arnica Montana is a plant commonly found in the Northwestern parts of the United States and Central Europe.  Arnica is made from the whole fresh flowering plant.

Arnica is given to our patients at the pre-operative visit.  The directions are easy to follow: Take five pellets of Arnica three times a day starting two days prior to surgery.  Place the pellets under the tongue and let dissolve.  Please remember that your mouth should be clean before taking the pellets.

Lifestyle Lift

September 3rd, 2009 admin

Lifestyle Lift is a cosmetic surgery COMPANY that markets a plastic surgery technique to any medical doctor to enhance his revenue stream. The person that does the surgery will most likely NOT be a plastic surgeon, but rather a doctor that has taken a very short course. The company recently reached a settlement with the State of New York over it’s attempts fake favorable consumer reviews on the Web, as reported by the New York Attorney General’s office recently.
Evidently, the company had it’s employees pretending they were customers writing positive reviews of it’s marketed procedure on Web sites. The company also created its own sites of face-lift reviews to appear as independent sources.
Andrew Cuomo, the Atorney General, was quoted as saying that Lifestye Lifts “attempts to generate business by duping cosumers was cynical, manipulative and illegal.”
Caveat Emptor! Be sure to check what kind of doctor you are seeing before agreeing to any surgery. You are entrusting your face to someone. Make sure they have the requisite experience and training.

The New York Times reported on Lifestyle Lift in its July 15th, 2009 edition.

All the Best,

Bio Films

July 22nd, 2009 admin

Bio Films

Mentor Corporation, the company that makes what we consider to be the best breast implants in the world, held a conference last week to update the local plastic surgery community on advances being made in the realm of bio film technology. This wasn’t about biological movies but rather how bacteria gain a foothold in the human body and survive despite our best efforts, both by drugs and by our own immune systems, to destroy them. This is important in understanding the causes of implant capsule formation and what we can do to prevent it. Implant capsules form in a small number of patients and can result in a firm breast.

Bio films are a layer of material that are formed by bacteria and act as a platform for the congregation and promotion of bacterial growth. They are a biological scaffolding that is hard to remove. When bacteria grow on these scaffolds they act as a community and actually communicate through chemical secretion. They can withstand the effects of high power antibiotics by allowing the upper layer of bacteria in the colony to be killed and not have the drugs penetrate to affect the lower layers. When the antibiotics are no longer present the under layers of bacteria are free to grow again. It is the presence of these bio films that stimulate scar production and thus capsule formation after breast augmentation.

The medical research community is now focusing on ways to dissolve bio films to eliminate their possible negative effects after implant placement.

Currently the best way to deal with bacterial growth and bio film is to not let it occur. We do this in our operations by using sterile technique, giving our patients antibiotics before we start surgery and being sure there is little to no bleeding in the pocket which could help the bacteria. The implants come sterile but we routinely wash them in a triple antibiotic solution that we also irrigate the pocket with before placing the implant. This makes it difficult for bacteria to grow and helps explain why we have such excellent results.

All the best,

Dr. Jabs

Why Cosmetic Surgery Associates for Breast Augmentation, Facelift, Abdominoplasty and Liposuction?

June 18th, 2009 admin

What sets us apart from the rest?
Yes, Dr. Jabs and I are both board certified plastic surgeons, as are many. However, not all have achieved the Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). But, what really sets us apart is the forty years of combined experience in treating thousands of patients with cosmetic surgery. We have developed unique techniques that help our patients heal faster with a quicker recovery and obtain a more natural look.

Some specific differences between us and the rest:

Breast Augmentation – We achieve markedly less post-op pain with a technique we developed that was published in our national journal in September 2008 (.pdf downloadable on our homepage). Some patients do not even take post-op pain medicine.

Face – We have developed a face/neck lifting technique using short scars that has very fast recovery and gives an amazingly natural look. Most patients are back to work in a week.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) – We have developed a method that contours the abdomen leaving shape and definition. This technique also dramatically reduces the most common complication of seroma formation.

Liposuction – We use thin canulas to achieve smooth results using the latest in tumescent, power assisted and ultrasonic liposuction techniques.

These are a few of the differences. We pride ourselves that with every procedure we perform our experience has left us with skills to obtain great results with fast recovery. Nobody in our practice is more important than you.  From the first phone call to your last appointment, be assured that you will be treated with compassion and integrity.

American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) Annual Meeting

May 21st, 2009 admin

I just returned from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery,  ASAPS, meeting in Las Vegas. These meetings are held once a year for board certified plastic surgeons to stay current on the latest techniques in aesthetic surgery. This year it was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. It lasted for 6 days and included daily scientific lectures in the morning followed by classes on more narrow topics in the afternoon. All of the companies that supply technology to the field were there to display their wares. It is a great way to get a concentrated dose of continuing education in a short time and catch up on new technology. I always find that I pick up as many “pearls of wisdom” from talking to old friends from around the world as I do from attending the scientific forums and lectures. This year was no different. I picked up quite a few ideas about how I can modify my procedures to get better results. In addition, I affirmed that the majority of the techniques that I currently use to help my patients are the safest and most efficacious one’s available.

The hot topics this year were:

  1. How plastic surgeons can help our patients using the least invasive techniques

  1. How we can help keep people safe by educating them about doctors who are trying to do procedures for which they are not trained.

  1. The use of non-invasive techniques (laser, botox, soft tissue fillers, skin care, diet and life style changes) to enhance one’s appearance

I am looking forward to bringing more noninvasive procedures in to my practice.

All the best,

Dr. Jabs
